Some of us for one reason or another feel that we cannot do sports or exercise so therefore cannot get fit and healthier, the majority of people who fall into this category are those who are very large. Very large people have to contend with physical aspects such as not being able to bend or move as freely as those carrying less weight and also have to contend with the mental side of feeling self-conscious when being active around others. Whatever your reasons there are always ways you can still be physically active and therefore get healthier and fitter, there are many benefits to being active including lowering your stress levels and improving your outlook, improves your heart and lungs and helps you to lose weight.

Getting started
If you have been inactive for a long time then it is very important that you take things really slowly at first and build up rather than rushing into a heavy routine straight away. Rushing into a heavy workout will do you more harm than good, remember that your body will need time to get used to your new routine and the exercise that you are expecting it to do. Warm up routines are also very important for anyone before you exercise, these can simply be marching slowly in place and stretching your muscles. Similarly you should always do a cooling down routine at the end of your exercise plan to cool down and relax your muscles to prevent aches and pains afterwards.

Forms of exercise suitable for the non-active person
Certain forms of exercise are more suited for those who haven't been active in a long time and as mentioned before you should start slowly into any form of exercise routine and build up.

Walking
Walking is a great form of exercise which anyone can do and there is no special equipment needed, aim to take a walk for around 5 minutes a day to begin with then after a week try for around 10 minutes and slowly increase this over time or speed up the walking pace.

Water workouts
Water workouts are an excellent way to get fitter and healthier and increase your flexibility, your strength and reduce the risk of injury for those who haven't exercised in a long time. There are two basic forms of water workouts, shallow water workouts and deep-water workouts both of which have different effects on your body. The shallow water workout can be done by those who cannot swim or are afraid of water and the deep-water workout will benefit and give the whole body a workout.

Stretching
Stretching can be done anywhere and requires no special equipment; yoga and tai-chi are two popular forms of stretching exercise that relaxes the body and mind and increase flexibility and improve the flow of blood.

Weight training
Weight training doesn't have to be about lifting huge amounts of weights, lifting light weights can help to strengthen the muscles and bones. Weight training can be done at home or in the gym and if doing it a home then you can even use cans of soup as the weights.

Bicycling
There are special exercise bikes which you can use in your home or you can choose to bike outdoors, the home exercise bike is usually foldable and requires very little room to set up and use. Cycling is an excellent form of exercise for strengthening the leg muscles, back muscles and stomach muscles as well as improving the blood flow and your heart and lungs.

While the majority of people do actively try to take care of their physical health by exercising and eating a sensible diet most don't stop to think about the other side that completes a happy, healthy individual, their mental health. Here are some tips for excellent self-care:

* Treat your body - while we exercise to take care of our body we should also remember to give it a treat, pamper it a little. This could be by way of a massage after a hard days work when it is tired and stressed or something as simple as standing up and giving it a stretch to ease knotted muscles.

* Take time out - refresh your body and mind by giving yourself some space, some time just for you, this could be as little as five minutes where you find peace and solitude by closing your eyes and deep breathing. The longer you can take time out from your busy day just for yourself the better.

* Let your inner child out - can you remember how much simpler life was when you were a child; go back to your childhood for a short while. Do something you used to enjoy doing as a child, this could be anything from rollerblading, lying on your back and finding shapes in the clouds, making a daisy chain or playing on a swing.

* Comfort yourself - we all have something that comforts us in times when we need it, something that make us feel safe and secure. Take time out to comfort yourself every now and again. This could be sitting in front of a roaring fire and watching the flames dance, relaxing in a hot bubble bath surrounded by candlelight, snuggling up in a favorite blanket or a particular smell that relaxes you.

* Relax in fantasy - take time out to go out of your world and into another, this could be by way of a book, magazine or film. Or better yet visualization; go into your own fantasy world, created by your own mind.

* Treat yourself to a mental health day - treat yourself to a whole day of just doing whatever it is you enjoy doing, don't do any work or even think or feel guilty about what you should be doing. Just make the day all about you.

* Rediscover nature - reconnect with the world around you by taking a long walk through the park, notice how green the grass is and how blue the sky and marvel at the weird and wonderful shapes of the clouds drifting over the sky.

* Do something you keep putting off - take time out to do something you have been meaning to do for a long time. Don't keep putting it off, make today the day to do it.

These are just some of the ways you can help to improve your health by taking care of your mental health, just open your mind and be more aware of your body and mind and you will discover many other ways to take care of your mental health which ultimately leads to a happier and healthier you, overall.

Attending an interview can be a nerve-racking for even the experience professional. (...)

Attending an interview can be a nerve-racking for even the experience professional. However, there are a few points to remember that can ensure your interview gets off to a great start and to give you the knowledge and comfort you need to reduce anxiety and calm you down. Here are the 10 top tips when attending your interview and getting successfully through it.

1. Do a little research - researching the company beforehand and finding a little about what they do and who they are can go a long way to being a success or not, it could make all the difference to them hiring you. Understanding what they are looking for in a person can also greatly increase your chances, you can use the companies prospectus or the internet to do your research on the company,

2. Present yourself well - preparing yourself is essential for success in your interview, always give yourself plenty of time to shower, groom and dress appropriately for your interview. Choose your outfit wisely and dress appropriately for the type of job you are applying for.

3. Arrive early - always make sure you arrive at the interview roughly 10 minutes before the actual interview starts, this will ensure that you don't arrive flustered after rushing around and will show the interviewer that you are punctual.

4. Ask questions yourself - while it is you that is being interviewed you should also prepare questions to ask the interviewer, by preparing questions to ask beforehand it will show the interviewer that you have taken the time, have shown initiative and are interested in finding out more about the position or company.

5. First impressions count - always remember that first impressions count for a lot, walk into the interview with your head held high, smile and give a firm handshake. Showing you have confidence in yourself is essential and can make all the difference to you being successful.

8. Make sure you understand the requirements - if you are unsure of any questions that the interviewer asks then be sure to ask them to clarify what they mean, if you answer without fully understanding the question you are only asking for trouble.

9. Ask about follow up - make sure that the interviewer knows how interested you are by asking about what happens after the interview regarding follow up, make sure you know how and when they will contact you if you are successful.

10. Make sure the interviewer knows you want the job - at the end of the interview make sure you reiterate how much you are suited for the position and what you could give to the firm as a member of staff.

Generally speaking, people can't say no to someone asking them for something because they are so worried about upsetting the person or lack the courage to turn down the request. (...)

Generally speaking, people can't say no to someone asking them for something because they are so worried about upsetting the person or lack the courage to turn down the request. People often dislike disagreeing, or believe saying yes is easier than saying no. Others can simply not say no. However, there are often instances where it is best to say no to a request and it is important to learn how to utter that small little word, "no."

Adopt simple strategies to say no, politely but firmly. You don't need to cook stories up in order to refuse. You don't need to offer lame excuses. You can say no without being dishonest.

Look at some of the umpteen ways you can say no:

* No

* I can't accept this, with my present commitments. I'm sorry.

* I'm rather quite busy now. I must decline.

* I don't think I have the time for it, as I am in the middle of something important.

* After looking at my calendar, I found that I already have prior commitments.

* No. I would only be able to do a mediocre job right now.

* No. I don't have any spare time right now.

* Not this time, please give me more notice next time and I'll work it into my schedule.

* I can't.

* Why don't you try someone else? I'm not the right person for this..

There are a hundred other ways of saying no without feeling uneasy or hurting others by being blunt or even rude. If you aren't sure, you can always ask for time to make the decision without feeling guilty. You may say you will have to think about it. If somebody persists with the request when you want to say no, you may have to be assertive and firmly decline. You don't need to risk over committing by saying yes when you actually want to say no.

In extreme cases, people unable to say no to their bosses, who demand much more work than they can reasonably manage to do within a specified time, end up either not doing the job at all or doing it poorly. In either case, they are unnecessarily putting their jobs on the line. If you can show your boss, the reasons for not being able to accept the extra responsibility, you may be able to convince your superior about your inability to accept the additional work. You can perhaps make a list of all the projects that have already filled your plate. Perhaps you can suggest alternative strategies or others whose workload is lower or competence levels higher for accomplishing that particular piece of work. In any case, don't accept anything that puts your job at risk or makes you suffer later.

Undoubtedly, learning to say no is a must have skill for everyone. Saying no at the right time can help you to gain respect with your peers and help avoid bitterness from those to have to hear it.

Get a better grasp on your self improvement plans with better time management tips. Customize any of these to suit your needs and adjust accordingly.

1) Write ou good scripts for your voicemail and record them, using automation for your benefit. For example, tell people what a good time range is for making calls to you directly, tell businesses that you are on the Do Not Call list and to move you from their lists, leave your URL for website visitors, etc. It's like having your own secretary.

2) Get another automated helps in the form of your computer. Take classes and get books about your type of computer and learn all you can about its features. The more you can learn about your computer, the more you can put it to work for you: making web pages, setting up automated tasks like cleaning up its systems and compacting files, using software on it for safety tools and much more.

3) Get and use a good planner and planning system. Franklin Covey products are excellent for this. Based upon a daily notebook used by Benjamin Franklin, Franklin Covey products are popular worldwide in all walks of life, with products available in all budget ranges with compatible software for computers and handhelds.

4) Learn to set up folders efficiently and effectively on your computer, with your email and offline - all coordinating with each other as needed. That way you can quickly grab someone's folder if he or she calls in, no matter if you are online or off.

5) Time your use of the Internet and email. Stop checking email constantly and fix the settings so that email doesn't float into your In Box every five minutes - or instantly. Only check it once in the morning and once in the afternoon. And likewise with Internet access, only log on once in the morning and once in the afternoon to get all of your work done in huge chunks. In between, get out into the real world, work in some fitness routines, visit local clients and prospects and enjoy life. You don't need another addiction.

6) Stop trying to 'multitask' all the time. Put all your energy and best effort into one thing at a time until it's finished.

And find more effective use of your time and efforts with helpful articles online, videos, books and other tools from the library. Go get em!

Many times in our lives, we'll seek help with improvement self techniques. (...)

Many times in our lives, we'll seek help with improvement self techniques. We may be trying to lose weight, increase our self esteem, find the mate of our dreams or any of a number of other self improvement issues.

Thanks to the Internet, it's easier than ever to learn about self improvement techniques. There a thousands, if not millions, of websites devoted to self improvement. There are also a wide number of personal coaches available on the Internet who do personal coaching by phone or even email. No matter what self improvement technique you want to know more about, you can find a wealth of information online.

You can also find self improvement techniques in a wide variety of books and tapes at your local bookstore. The main thing to keep in mind when sorting through all the self improvement information there is out there is to stay focused on the self improvement technique you seek. You can easily get off track by all the choices there are. In other words, you can start out looking for information on dieting techniques and find you've bought a several hundred dollars of books, tapes, CDs and videos on every self improvement technique BUT dieting. So stay focused in your search for self improvement technique information.

Also, make sure the self improvement technique you decide to pursue has been developed by a credentialed expert in that subject. While there is plenty of useful information on a wide variety of self improvement techniques, there is also a lot of useless information available from scammers and self proclaimed experts that really won't tell you anything new or different when it comes to self improvement techniques. So it's a good idea to visit some discussion groups on the self improvement technique you're interested in to find out which ones are truly good and effective. That way, you won't waste your time, or, more important, your money.

It is even more prominent than manner, It is indeed the only thing which is remarked in a casual encounter, or during the first interview. It, therefore, should be the first care.

What style is to our thoughts, dress is to our persons. It may supply the place of more solid qualities, and without it the most solid are of little avail. Numbers have owed their elevation to their attention to the toilet. Place, fortune, marriage have all been lost by neglecting it.

Your dress should always be consistent with your age and your natural exterior. That which looks outr, on one man, will be agreeable on another. As success in this respect depends almost entirely upon particular circumstances and personal peculiarities, it is impossible to give general directions of much importance. We can only point out the field for study and research; it belongs to each one's own genius and industry to deduce the results. However ugly you may be, rest assured that there is some style of habiliment which will make you passable.

If, for example, you have a stain upon your cheek which rivals in brilliancy the best Chateau-Margout; or, are afflicted with a nose whose lustre dims the ruby, you may employ such hues of dress, that the eye, instead of being shocked by the strangeness of the defect, will be charmed by the graceful harmony of the colours. Every one cannot indeed be an Adonis, but it is his own fault if he is an Esop.

Almost every defect of face may be concealed by a judicious use and arrangement of hair. Take care, however, that your hair be not of one colour and your whiskers of another; and let your wig be large enough to cover the whole of your red or white hair. It is evident, therefore, that though a man may be ugly, there is no necessity for his being shocking.

Life is like a road. There are long and short roads; smooth and rocky roads; crooked and straight paths. In our life many roads would come our way as we journey through life. (...)

Life is like a road. There are long and short roads; smooth and rocky roads; crooked and straight paths. In our life many roads would come our way as we journey through life. There are roads that lead to a life of single blessedness, marriage, and religious vocation. There are also roads that lead to fame and fortune on one hand, or isolation and poverty on the other. There are roads to happiness as there are roads to sadness, roads towards victory and jubilation, and roads leading to defeat and disappointment.

Just like any road, there are corners, detours, and crossroads in life. Perhaps the most perplexing road that you would encounter is a crossroad. With four roads to choose from and with limited knowledge on where they would go, which road will you take? What is the guarantee that we would choose the right one along the way? Would you take any road, or just stay where you are: in front of a crossroad?

There are no guarantees.

You do not really know where a road will lead you until you take it. There are no guarantees. This is one of the most important things you need to realize about life. Nobody said that choosing to do the right thing all the time would always lead you to happiness. Loving someone with all your heart does not guarantee that it would be returned. Gaining fame and fortune does not guarantee happiness. Accepting a good word from an influential superior to cut your trip short up the career ladder is not always bad, especially if you are highly qualified and competent. There are too many possible outcomes, which your really cannot control. The only thing you have power over is the decisions that you will make, and how you would act and react to different situations.

Wrong decisions are always at hindsight.

Had you known that you were making a wrong decision, would you have gone along with it? Perhaps not, why would you choose a certain path when you know it would get you lost? Why make a certain decision if you knew from the very beginning that it is not the right one. It is only after you have made a decision and reflected on it that you realize its soundness. If the consequences or outcomes are good for you, then you have decided correctly. Otherwise, your decision was wrong.

Take the risk: decide.

Since life offers no guarantee and you would never know that your decision would be wrong until you have made it, then you might as well take the risk and decide. It is definitely better than keeping yourself in limbo. Although it is true that one wrong turn could get you lost, it could also be that such a turn could be an opportunity for an adventure, moreover open more roads. It is all a matter of perspective. You have the choice between being a lost traveller or an accidental tourist of life. But take caution that you do not make decisions haphazardly. Taking risks is not about being careless and stupid. Here are some pointers that could help you choose the best option in the face of life's crossroads:

Get as many information as you can about your situation.

You cannot find the confidence to decide when you know so little about what you are faced with. Just like any news reporter, ask the 5 W's: what, who, when, where, and why. What is the situation? Who are the people involved? When did this happen? Where is this leading? Why are you in this situation? These are just some of the possible questions to ask to know more about your situation. This is important. Oftentimes, the reason for indecision is the lack of information about a situation.

Identify and create options.

What options do the situation give you? Sometimes the options are few, but sometimes they are numerous. But what do you do when you think that the situation offers no options? This is the time that you create your own. Make your creative mind work. From the most simplistic to the most complicated, entertain all ideas. Do not shoot anything down when an idea comes to your head. Sometimes the most outrageous idea could prove to be the right one in the end. You can ask a friend to help you identify options and even make more options if you encounter some difficulty, but make sure that you make the decision yourself in the end.

Weigh the pros and cons of every option.

Assess each option by looking at the advantages and disadvantages it offers you. In this way, you get more insights about the consequences of such an option.

Trust yourself and make that decision.

Now that you have assessed your options, it is now time to trust yourself. Remember that there are no guarantees and wrong decisions are always at hindsight. So choose… decide… believe that you are choosing the best option at this point in time.

Now that you have made a decision, be ready to face its consequences: good and bad. It may take you to a place of promise or to a land of problems. But the important thing is that you have chosen to live your life instead of remaining a bystander or a passive audience to your own life. Whether it is the right decision or not, only time can tell. But do not regret it whatever the outcome. Instead, learn from it and remember that you always have the chance to make better decisions in the future.

"There were no more worlds to conquer"- wept Alexander the Great after his army conquered much of the earth. He had a successful mind and became a successful person. (...)

"There were no more worlds to conquer"- wept Alexander the Great after his army conquered much of the earth. He had a successful mind and became a successful person. You can have similar success, but first you must want it inside before it can become a reality.

Are you unmotivated, exhausted, and too spent to achieve any more? This is a good problem. Why? Because at last you have distinguished yourself from the rest - you know your downfalls and that is the first step in order to be able to correct them. If you keep your mind free, it will make you to feel happiness and success would follow immediately.

Then you may ask how to make your mind free. It is universal truth that shadows will fall behind you once you keep your face to the sun. So if you face the problem with confidence, you may reap the benefits of success.

Just call your friend and ask him to look at a glass that is half filled with water. Ask him to critique it. A successful optimist may answer it is half-full or as a pessimist would probably answer that it is half empty. The sad part is that the pessimist does not have the right mind set to be a huge success. Despite the simple explanation of a pessimist and an optimist, we do have a lot of choices we can make. However, most of us choose to look at things from a negative light and always see the dark side of situations. If we choose to look at the positive side of things, like the water glass being half full, we are more likely to find the good in things and lead a happy, successful life with flying colors.

Try to follow this simple three step positive thinking formula to help you achieve success.

Regardless of the situation you must:
Analyze the situation coolly. Turn it outside in, downside up, and upside down.
Realize that it could always have been worse. Unearth why and how it could have been worse.
Find the good in it and grab it. The good side may appear to you in a flash or gradually. It all depends on the outcome of steps 1 and 2.

Try this three-step mental attitude fix to help turn your mind in to that of a successful thinker. Very soon you'll begin to look at people and things in a new light and see how you can make the most of any situation. The more success you emanate from yourself, the more successful you'll become. Once you've developed a successful mind, you'll definitely become a successful self.

Much has been written about leadership: rules, pointers, styles, and biographies of inspiring leaders throughout world history. (...)

Much has been written about leadership: rules, pointers, styles, and biographies of inspiring leaders throughout world history. But there are certain leadership ideas that we ourselves fail to recognize and realize in the course of reading books. Here is a short list of things you thought you knew about leadership.

1. Leaders come in different flavors.

There are different types of leaders and you will probably encounter more than one type in your lifetime. Formal leaders are those we elect into positions or offices such as the senators, congressmen, and presidents of the local clubs. Informal leaders or those we look up to by virtue of their wisdom and experience such as in the case of the elders of a tribe, or our grandparents; or by virtue of their expertise and contribution on a given field such as Albert Einstein in the field of Theoretical Physics and Leonardo da Vinci in the field of the Arts. Both formal and informal leaders practice a combination of leadership styles.
* Lewin's three basic leadership styles - authoritative, participative, and delegative
* Likert's four leadership styles - exploitive authoritative, benevolent authoritative, consultative, and participative
* Goleman's six emotional leadership styles - visionary, coaching, affiliative, democratic, pacesetting, and commanding.

2. Leadership is a process of becoming.

Although certain people seem to be born with innate leadership qualities, without the right environment and exposure, they may fail to develop their full potential. So like learning how to ride a bicycle, you can also learn how to become a leader and hone your leadership abilities. Knowledge on leadership theories and skills may be formally gained by enrolling in leadership seminars, workshops, and conferences. Daily interactions with people provide the opportunity to observe and practice leadership theories. Together, formal and informal learning will help you gain leadership attitudes, gain leadership insights, and thus furthering the cycle of learning. You do not become a leader in one day and just stop. Life-long learning is important in becoming a good leader for each day brings new experiences that put your knowledge, skills, and attitude to a test.

3. Leadership starts with you.

The best way to develop leadership qualities is to apply it to your own life. As an adage goes "action speaks louder than words." Leaders are always in the limelight. Keep in mind that your credibility as a leader depends much on your actions: your interaction with your family, friends, and co-workers; your way of managing your personal and organizational responsibilities; and even the way you talk with the newspaper vendor across the street. Repeated actions become habits. Habits in turn form a person's character. Steven Covey's book entitled 7 Habits of Highly Effective People provides good insights on how you can achieve personal leadership.

4. Leadership is shared.

Leadership is not the sole responsibility of one person, but rather a shared responsibility among members of an emerging team. A leader belongs to a group. Each member has responsibilities to fulfill. Formal leadership positions are merely added responsibilities aside from their responsibilities as members of the team. Effective leadership requires members to do their share of work. Starting as a mere group of individuals, members and leaders work towards the formation of an effective team. In this light, social interaction plays a major role in leadership. To learn how to work together requires a great deal of trust between and among leaders and members of an emerging team. Trust is built upon actions and not merely on words. When mutual respect exists, trust is fostered and confidence is built.

5. Leadership styles depend on the situation.

How come dictatorship works for Singapore but not in the United States of America? Aside from culture, beliefs, value system, and form of government, the current situation of a nation also affects the leadership styles used by its formal leaders. There is no rule that only one style can be used. Most of the time, leaders employ a combination of leadership styles depending on the situation. In emergency situations such as periods of war and calamity, decision-making is a matter of life and death. Thus, a nation's leader cannot afford to consult with all departments to arrive at crucial decisions. The case is of course different in times of peace and order—different sectors and other branches of government can freely interact and participate in governance. Another case in point is in leading organizations. When the staffs are highly motivated and competent, a combination of high delegative and moderate participative styles of leadership is most appropriate. But if the staffs have low competence and low commitment, a combination of high coaching, high supporting, and high directing behavior from organizational leaders is required.

Now that you are reminded of these things, keep in mind that there are always ideas that we think we already know; concepts we take for granted, but are actually the most useful insights on leadership.
